Myrna Jean Shorey

Mrs. Myrna J. Shorey, 76, died Monday, January 7, at Union Hospital after falling ill at home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Robert M. Shorey, with whom she shared 56 inspiring years of marriage. Born in Lynn, Myrna was the daughter of the late Paul T. and Mildred (Mongeau) Barke, Sr. and the sister of the late Paul T. Barke, Jr. She attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn English High School with high honors in the Class of 1954. It was in high school that Myrna met Robert and they began their adventure together. While Robert served in the Air Force, Myrna waited for him and attended business school in Boston and soon became a devoted legal secretary at Foley & Carey Law Offices. Myrna was an amazing wife and a fun loving mother, known to crack a great joke and bring life to any room. She was an active member of the former Broadway United Methodist Church and current member of the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield. She enjoyed boating and, most of all, spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Myrna is survived by her three sons, Dana R. and his wife Michelle of Peabody, Brian P. and his wife Xiner of Gilroy, CA, James R. and his wife Carla of Byfield, two sister-in-laws, Barbara Barke of Lynn and B.E. Shorey of Tampa, FL, five grandchildren Mark, Cara, Alicia, Taylor, and Morgan Shorey, and several nieces and nephews. Service Details: Funeral services will be held at the Centre Congregational Church, Summer and Main St. Lynnfield, on Saturday at 1:00 PM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are at Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Donations can be made in Myrna’s name to the American Heart Assoc. New England Affiliate 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701-4688, or the American Diabetes Association Boston NH-MA Office 330 Congress St. 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
